Some – and by some, we mean many – skincare users go through endless internal battles to get themselves to move their products to another room than the bathroom. But the price of taking care of yourself shouldn’t be the constant fear over the contamination and growth of microbes like fungi and bacteria in what you’re using every day. Those Korean, sensitive-skin products made with high-quality ingredients and some of the industry’s most cutting-edge technologies already cost you a lot. That’s why we’re reminding you that there are some things you can do to make sure your skincare products are better maintained and protected even in the bathroom – and encouraging you to continue reading so you can maintain your routine and sanity, without moving products back and forth every day. At the same time, you’ll leave with new storage ideas to make more of your bathroom’s layout. Just a mention: your bathroom needs to be really well ventilated, preferably without a window or exposure to sun, cold, or constant temperature spikes.

A makeup fridge – the trick that’ll take all your worries away

These skincare storage solutions are basking in popularity these days, promoted by influencers and skincare gurus on social media platforms, and the hype is justifiable. They’re keeping products at the ideal temperature no matter the room, come in affordably, aren’t affected by temperature changes, and depending on your space, they’re taking up more or less space. With all the perks offered, even uninstalling an old cabinet or doing some setup changes would be worth it if that made space for such a device. Plus, prices differ greatly from brand to brand, so there’s something to fit any budget.

With the fridge in your bathroom, the first two things you should place in it should be your serums and moisturizer. They’re not the most spacious storage, which is why you’ll need to carry out further research on what products you should give precedence to when deciding what goes inside the fridge and what’s left out.

The drawer or vanity for products that won’t make it into the fridge

Now, there are products that’ll still lie around in your bathroom, and they deserve a place in a drawer, a medicine cabinet, a dark vanity. Make sure they close properly so moisture can’t get in; otherwise, you’re trying in vain. And preferably, keep them away from sunlight. Now, this raises another question – how is the humidity in your bathroom? Because if you don’t have a dehumidifier that you’re using on a regular basis, you may have yet another device to bring home.

A dehumidifier is essential in bathrooms without ventilation. If not, you’re creating the ideal environment for fungi and bacteria to grow, as they thrive in humid, warm, nutrient-rich, and a bit acidic places. And it would be a shame to keep that net sponge in such an environment and shorten its lifespan, or replace it too soon. Because sponges are generally left to air dry in the bathroom, and you don’t want to hang yours in a poorly-ventilated area to dry. Importantly, a quality African net sponge will take less time to dry compared to other market alternatives, and uses special materials that don’t promote bacterial growth. Choose your products wisely – and your dehumidifying solutions even smarter.

Multi-functional storage solutions for households valuing space

Small bathrooms come with their limitations, but they don’t have to limit your skincare setup. There are quite a few solutions you can consider, like the popular vertical shelving or tiered storage units – perfect ways to make the most of a limited area while keeping clutter away. The idea is to create the setup upward, and leave room for larger items or pieces of décor while still having space for your daily essentials, from your castor oil to your headwrap. Another commonly favored solution is stackable drawers – versatile, easy to install and use, and great for organizing products by their importance and how frequently you use them. It’s easier to create a skincare routine and actually maintain it if you have them organized efficiently. And for that, you need a space that allows you to categorize them strategically, based on your daily needs.

If you’re fine with investing a little more, consider special cabinets

Did you know that a little extra money can get you cabinets designed specifically to preserve skincare? What can’t money get, right? We’re talking about dry cabinets.

Such cabinets come with features like built-in dehumidifiers made to help protect products from moisture, and doors made to resist UV sunlight and thus protect sensitive ingredients like vitamin C or retinol from degrading. There are technologies like thermoelectric cooling and desiccant materials that eliminate the moisture from the air and keep humidity within normal levels or lower. Normally, humidity levels should range between 40%-60% in the rest of the house, and in the bathroom, they should be lower. Such cabinets are airtight to keep air from entering, and sealed, usually having a metallic construction to keep skincare ingredients safe from temperature changes – critical for products like serums.

Rotating baskets and organizers to stop knocking over stuff

How about rotating organizers and baskets? These storage pieces don’t just look nice, but they’re highly convenient when looking for a spot to organize things like skincare devices and items (sunscreens, facial brushes, brush cleaners, treatment devices, and so on and so forth). It’ll be easier to grab whatever item you need, and stop worrying about knocking over other containers.

    Endnote

With so many storage solutions, almost any bathroom can become a safe space for the skincare routine. You don’t need to shuttle between rooms like you’re running a marathon. Because we all know how common it is to forget the toner in the bedroom and be on the brink of skipping it altogether. Just keep your skincare products safe from humidity, temperature changes, and heat – and choose your storage solutions based on what should truly remain in the bathroom, not the sealed, unopened eye cream you can safely store in another place in the house.
